Today I, Richard Howell, reach out to you, teachers ,students , music lovers, visionary and supporters of live music,
to enlist your financial contribution for the completion and the promotion of my latest CD “Burkina”.
If I have touched your life in any way through performance, lecture, workshops , community involvement
or sharing an idea as a descent human being who obviously cares we remain connected, help me!
My vision and dream is it to bring the music to the famous Apollo Theater in New York City for its debut
and an international and national tour 2016 . With your gift today, you will make a difference
and you become an important part of my vision and the continuation of live music.
I had a strong desire to visit West Africa, I saved money to one day buy a ticket.
I could not save enough. In 2005 the opportunity presented itself for me to tour West Africa playing jazz music.
I credit my beautiful vintage French brand saxophone as my ticket to see the world.
Out of gratitude I felt compelled to give thanks and honor my horn.
In a ceremonial atmosphere I chose to lift my horn to the African night sky facing the heavens,
I christened it "Burkina" which means honorable in the ancient Moor language,
I felt even more connected.
Presently, years later I gathered a consul of honorable multigenerational people
to hold the history and the culture of music in accordance to tradition.
The purpose of this gathering was to create music to be shared, that inspires and moves the body.
This is music that bridges the past to the present leading to the future. In my original compositions
I draw upon the ancestry of jazz , the essence of soul music, the sensibility of popular music
and the spirit of a triumphant nation to create "Bridge Music".
Passion is its core, joy surrounds it's exuberance and love just keeps it together.
Burkina, my latest Cd is in its embryonic state.
